The Pardubice Great Race is clearly one of the Czech Republic\’s most visited and most prestigious sporting events. Most Czech citizens know the names Josef Vanya and Zeleznik ,and the race is a big deal in the Czech Republic. There is a curious ribbon around the derby that makes it so special.
Unforgettable horses
The aforementionedstallion Zeleznikwas the most successful horse in the Pardubice Derby. He started a total of eight times and crossed the finish line first four times. The first was in 1985 and the last in 1992, with Josef Vanya in the saddle. Czeleznik won the race three times in a row. The oldest horse to win this race was 14-year-oldUnkas. The legendary Joseph Vanya
ran 28 times. The last was in 2014, when he finished 16th onTiumen. He and Czeleznik have run together the most. He won a total of eight times. But his personal victories are not the only first place. Josef Vanya is also a very successful trainer. He has coached nine winners, the firstbeing the brown-haired Chipiskin 1996.
The race is open to men and women of all ages,
and there is no strict age limit for participation. The youngest winner was Josef Vavroshek in 1956. He won the Letka under saddle at the age of 19. Meanwhile, the oldest winner,Vladimir Heymovsky, won in 1951with Salvatoreat age 59. Josef Vanya also almost took this #1 spot, winning just days before his 59th birthday in 2011.
