The Ideal Presidential Candidate
Obviously, for each of us the ideal president is a different person. We all have different ideas about how he should represent our country, how he should behave, how he should speak, how he should perform, what his educational background should be. Or even should be. For some, the ideal candidate might be a woman, not a man. For some, thinking of the head of state in masculine terms is merely a habit, for they have yet to encounter the opposite option.
In any case, there are some qualities that most of the public would agree on, and would be proud to have such a person as head of state. Unfortunately, however, we must choose from among those who meet the legal requirements for candidacy.
And what qualities are those?
A diplomat in heart and soul. The ideal president is one who can communicate effortlessly with anyone under any circumstances. He never loses his cool and always knows what is appropriate to say. And at the same time, he knows at least one foreign language so that he can represent well on an international level.
Well educated. By law, running for office is limited primarily by age and number of supporters. In this case, education is irrelevant. Nevertheless, deep down inside, everyone wants a well-educated president who understands politics and international relations issues, ideally with an appropriate college degree.
Honest and kind. Few people imagine that the head of state is a liar and a manipulator. These qualities are often found in totalitarian dictators. Many of us covet a president who is a moral compass and role model for his constituents.
When we move away from the characteristics described above, we notice something. When choosing the ideal candidate, many of us are not concerned with specific characteristics, but rather with the overall impression the candidate gives us. And that impression should inspire us with a sense of awe, pride, and joy that such a person can give us a head start. That is the ideal candidate.
