extortionate emails
Blackmail emailsYes, it\’s that security thing we\’ve been told so many times. As a general rule, never click on anything in an email unless you know the sender and know what the email is about. If you do click on it, report it as spam. No, it really has nothing to do with snitching.
But what if you receive an e-mail with conditions that must be met? The answer is simple. Do not comply. And delete the email. But be warned. Recently, there has been a surge of emails written in the not-so-decent Czech language in which the attacker claims that your mailbox has been attacked by hackers.
Now, there are two sequels to this scenario: the first is that they will “clean” your PC, for a fee, of course. [The second is that they are the bad guys and have installed a virus for you. If you pay them, they will uninstall the virus for you. 9]
The third option is that instead of money, they ask for your pornographic images or video recordings, and only after you send them to them do they start blackmailing you.
In other words, this is classic pishing, and you wouldn\’t believe how many people have fallen for it.
How do you spot a scam? It is not that complicated. The header of the email has a header for the company that actually handles the virus, and if that company is okay, it also says where to make the payment. In other words, it\’s a bank, and you can trace the money there. However, scammers always just give a bitcoin wallet number, which is almost impossible to trace. There is no record of such transactions. Only the hackers themselves know where the money ends up, unless another hacker blows it up.
Now, if you receive such an e-mail, delete it and do not reply. But you should report it as spam. It will do you no harm and will serve as a warning to other potential victims. It would also serve as a warning to those dealing with this matter at the highest level.
So, if you don\’t send any money or anything else, hackers will not be interested in you. Until a new hacker shows up.
