Do you drive for consumption?
Fuel consumption is an important item in looking at the economics of running a car, so all drivers monitor the high cost of driving and work to reduce it. Traffic congestion and excessive accelerating in urban areas are not always the cause of increased consumption. Other factors also affect consumption. They include the technical condition of the car, the type and quality of the tires, the air pressure, the load on the car, and the way the car is driven. Some of these factors can influence, while others do not.
particulate filters
Although some modern diesel vehicle owners are unaware that their vehicles even have diesel particulate filters, particulate filters are one of the most common causes of increased fuel consumption. Manufacturers state that the useful life of a particulate filter is approximately 150,000 kilometers. As filters approach the end of their useful life, engine performance gradually declines and fuel consumption increases. Consumption itself also increases as the number of times the filter regeneration is triggered by the vehicle\’s control unit increases. The driver receives an error message and the engine enters the so-called power-limited alternate mode. The particulate filter needs to be replaced, often at great expense. Therefore, most drivers are inclined to filter refurbishment, which is several times cheaper.
Other Factors Affecting Consumption
Tire pressure that is too high or too low also affects consumption. Some drivers also use winter tires in the summer, so-called “catch-up.” Similarly, leaving a bike carrier or roof box on the roof of the car increases aerodynamic drag. In addition, having the car windows open may increase fuel consumption somewhat.
Smooth driving
.
Smooth driving has a significant impact on fuel consumption. It is not possible in busy urban areas and it is recommended to use inertia as much as possible. Just be careful not to block the traffic of other vehicles. Enjoy a smooth ride even on long trips. Try to be as predictable as possible and drive so smoothly and sensibly that there is no need to use the brakes.
